Streptococcus pneumoniae cultivated on 5% sheep blood agar anaerobically. Colonies of certain strains can be surrounded by beta-hemolysis under anaerobic conditions. In this case colonies are surrounded by a more profound zone of alpha-hemolysis, without any signs of autolysis in the center of the colonies.
